HARLAN HODGES

West Texas born composer / pianist Harlan Hodges writes, performs and records music that blends the lonesome, smoky, and distant atmospheres of the American Southwest with the lush harmonic language of jazz and vibrant melodies of the Hollywood Golden Age. Educated in the classical tradition and self taught as a jazz musician, his music embraces the intimate relationship between styles, improvisation, performance, cutting-edge technology, and craftsmanship. The soulful call of blues, rolling rhythm of Western Swing, driving forces of rock and the great orchestral literature have all contributed to an eclectic and versatile background for his unique approach to scoring in modern cinema.

He was the 2019 recipient of the David Rose Award through the ASCAP Foundation, a finalist for the American Prize in composition for his work Three American Etudes (2017-2018) for solo piano, and is an alumnus of the 2019 ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop, SESAC Scores Composer Workshop, GRAMMY NEXT Program, and the SCL Mentors.

Harlan is in demand as a session pianist and conductor in the LA recording studios scene and has worked on all the historic Los Angeles scoring stages, including 20th Century FOX, MGM/Sony, Warner Brothers, Capitol Records. He is a regular session player for the Hollywood Scoring music department and is regularly featured on League of Legends. Among his most cherished collaborations he was honored to work with Cellist Lynn Harrell, Composer/ Pianist Randy Kerber, Singer / Songwriter Grace Potter, and Keyboardist / Songwriter Donald Fagen from Steely Dan.

Harlan resides in Los Angeles, CA working full-time as for films, documentaries, attractions, concerts, and records.
